Withdraw cash from shops by swiping ATM debit card at POS point of sale or card swipe machines

India is in queue these days due to scrapping of old Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes but most of us do not know that we can withdraw cash from shops by swiping out ATM debit card at POS point of sale/card swipe machines. To my knowledge, currently this facility is offered by SBI POS for all major Banks including Axis Bank, HDFC Bank etc. in India along with State Bank Group Debit cards card holders.

This facility is also called mini ATM/Cash@POS and chhota ATM in hindi. POS (point of sale) is nothing but the card swipe machine at the shops where they swipe their cards.

Let us see how does it work. The SBI swipe machines having this facility will have three options.
  1. Sale
  2. Cash only
  3. Sale and Cash
The sale is the default option when the card is inserted into the machine and is used to pay against your purchase.

If you want only cash from the shop then ask for cash only option.

If you want to pay against your purchase and also want cash then ask for sale and cash option. The shopkeeper has to enter both amounts separately. After successful transaction, the shopkeeper will hand over the cash to you along with the items you purchased.

This will keep the money rolling and help to take away queues from the ATM. Please share this among your friends to help other to circulate the cash.
